This is a side-effect of a search architecture change on the back end we completed recently for capacity reasons. We’re planning to change this logic soon which will redistribute the items more evenly.

Just a question though - how soon is "soon" to you? That "recent" architectureal change actually took place in June - and that was over 9 months ago.
How soon can we expect eBay to correct this (il)logic?

So either livehelp was uninformed or lying when asked about the item numbers?
They did the same thing with the backbutton.
They did the same with Store BINs not being shown in the tab.
And Ebay wonders why seller's balk at new "improvements" to the site. They always seem to have unintended consquences. They are quick to introduce these unwanted enhancements, yet extremely slow to fix the problems they introduce.
SYI, TL 2, Item placement, slow indexing, items disappearing, etc ad naseum.
But hey, the new smart search will come across glitch-free, and we all should be looking forward to it?!?!?!
