eBay "Promises, Promises" 17 November 2009 EventHorizon1984
It was 1968 and the broadway show Promises, Promises opened. The feature song, a composition by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, was a piece that was initially considered unsingable by the cast. Enter Dionne Warwick.
You may wonder, why bring this up? Sometimes 'the play's the thing'. Or the music.
"Promises, promises"
Fast forward to 14 April 2009 and read the words of Stephanie Tilenius.
According to Merriam-Webster the word "promise" means, "a declaration that one will do or refrain doing something specified".
There appears to be on the part of eBay a lack of refraining from doing what they declared.
eBay's pubic relations folks are bandying about the weasel terms "minor changes" and "major changes." That these are "minor changes" not "major changes." That's PR feldercarb you're slinging. Playing this type of word game destroys trust.
Which brings us to the word, "trust." According to Merriam-Webster the word "trust" means "assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone of something."
If there can be no reliance on what eBay promises, why should any eBay customer believe what eBay says.
"Oh, promises, their kind of promises can just destroy a life Oh, promises, those kind of promises take all the joy from life"
Incidentally should eBay stay at this pace of "minor changes", the next eBay defined "minor change" that would have a major effect on sellers would be announced the afternoon of November 25th or 26th. The 26th is Thanksgiving.

Spring forward to 27 July 2009 and read more from Stephanie Tilenius.
On 21 September 2009 Stephanie Tilenius was essentially fired.
In real life the promises of a person are only good as the person, and last as long as they do.
However Stephanie Tilenius was speaking for eBay INC. Wasn't she?
"I'm all through with promises, promises now"
Being a bit lazy, we'll skip forward to November 2009.

The day before Black Friday.
